An NON-INFLAMMATORY LIFESTYLE is key not only for our physical health but for our mental health too!
For so long, we thought that the brain was unchangeable and that once our brain started to break down, we’re stuck with it. Even worse, we thought that once the brain started to deteriorate, it was all downhill from there. We now know that that’s not true and that our brains are, indeed, changeable. The wiring of our brain is not fixed, it is adaptable. This is called Neuroplasticity.
Neuroplasticity: is concept that our brains are capable of change, and refers to increasing connections between your brain cells. We can harness the power of neuroplasticity to change our brain. Data shows that the brain can change quite quickly. With systematic practice and healthy habits they will endure.
The second part is Neurogenesis: which is the creation of new brain cells
We are going to have to except a new way of thinking about health- everything is connected!
Everything we do, everything we eat, all our thoughts, how we move has a direct impact on our brain.
Unfortunately through the lack of nutrient density in todays food chain and the amount of processed food we are getting up to 50 times more Omega-6’s, which partly explains the raise in chronic diseases. We need to take ownership of our own health. Start looking at the root cause and of the symptoms of our challenges. One way to do that is with the approach of preventative test based nutrition.
It is important to understand that everything is connected. This means that everything we do, everything we eat, all our thoughts, how we sleep, how we move and how we live can actually change our brain at any moment. Optimal nutrition is the most important factor in keeping the brain healthy. What you put in your mouth provides all the raw materials for building the structure of your brain cells and keeping all the communication systems running coherently, so you can think, emote, learn, and remember. Until recently, brain inflammation was considered pretty rare- unfortunately that changed and systemic/ chronic inflammation is the root cause of many diseases.
Our typical western diet is pro-inflammatory, meaning that it fosters the perfect environment for inflammation to occur in the body.
We have 2 “areas” of essential fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids provide the body with messenger molecules involved in the inflammatory response. This acute inflammation is is important to repair damage tissue. Omega-3 fatty acids trigger the ant-inflammatory messengers molecules. Omega-3 rich foods include wild caught fatty fish, grass-fed meats, freshly ground flax & chia seeds, almonds and walnuts.
BALANCE BETWEEN THESE 2 IS KEY!
